Be the Sun, Not the Planet (Poetry / Rhyme-Verse on SELF-DIRECTION)
“We both had strength, but not courage.
We both committed the same kind of treason somewhere.”
~ Ayn Rand
So here’s a poetic rendition of one of my favorite concepts to talk about (both on the blog and in the book) entitled, “Be the Sun, Not the Planet.” I shared it with one of my friends the other day and he loved it, so be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
Be The Sun, Not The Planet…
Since society conditions us, we’re all like clones. /
Digitized and inhibited, we’re all like drones.
Will you find what your spirit is? Will you find the mind /
To exhibit it? Or will you live confined and prohibit it?
Whenever I feel limited, I find the derivative /
Resides in following designs of the ignorant.
(So) What are your aims? What are your goals? What are your methods? /
What are your values? What are your codes? What are your ethics?
Do they stem and unfold from a purpose you chose? /
Or social pressure, validation and external control?
From a power inside you? Or that coward beside you? /
Do you model after fools who pretend they can guide you?
Cause what I learned about money, I learned from the poor /
And what I learned about the honeys, from herbs looking for wh___s.
I learned from pure dummies: is that worse or different from yours? /
It’s funny, but learn from me: reverse, switch up and morph (and)
Be the Sun, not the planet…”
