As some of you guys already now, I’ve turned into somewhat of a computer-nerd not too long ago (over the last 2 years, I’d say – at one point, I was even hooking up computers to make some money on the side).

One of the major things I’ve learned so far is that you don’t necessarily need to get a new computer or buy expensive programs if you know how to take care of what you have and keep it updated with the latest, free software. In that spirit, here’s some of the coolest, most convenient and free tools I’ve found that’ll probably make your XP look better then a Mac.

Rocketdock:
– This will create a mac-like scroll bar anywhere on your desktop screen that hovers and zoom in when you scroll over it. With this, not only can you easily access files, folders and system actions (I even have my “restart” and “shut-down” buttons here), but you can also personalize the entire feel.






Shock 4-Way 3D:
– A program that creates multiple desktops: this is hot…just check out the video:





Yahoo Widgets
– This program will allow you to install all kinds of dope “widgets” or cool, gadget-like functions to your desktop with is. I use mine for a dictionary, a battery-gauge, weather reports, an image slideshow, a stopwatch timer and more.

Uber Icon
– This adds cool visual effects to your icons when you click on them. Every time you explore a folder, start a program or open a file you can have it zoom in, bounce, dissolve or a bunch of other things.

CCleaner
– And lastly, here’s a free utility that’ll clean your registry and clear out unnecessary technical data files hidden in your computer (prefetch data, cache information, cookies, etc.). The “C” stands for “crap,” and it does as implied…
