General Mind States (& Benefits) for More Productivity…
Productivity is sexy to me…don’t ask why but there’s something about laser-focused, action-oriented behavior that gets me excited.
You know how most men look at foreign cars or what have you? THAT’S how I look at anything that illuminates the path towards self-discipline, personal efficiency and full engagement…
I was looking at this David Allen video called “GTD (Getting Things Done) & the 2 Keys to Sustaining a Healthy Life & Workstyle.” Early on in the lecture, he referred to his teachings as “Knowledge-Work Athletics”, and as soon as I heard that, I was like “Damn…YES! Exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
Here’s that video in full just in case you’re interested…
…and here’s another good, classic session from some other cool guy:
So WHY Is Productivity So Exciting, Anyway???
I guess the idea of being more productive turns me on because intuitively, I know it’ll make me more capable of achieving my life’s purpose, and I don’t think most people think like that.
When you learn to get more done, you actually GET MORE DONE. It’s like each time I learn something that makes me more efficient, I’m getting points to spend on the grand prize of my mission here on earth (think of an amusement park or something).
It helps in relationships too. For instance, when me and my ex-girlfriend lived together, I would get up super-early – like before 5 am early – just so I could have time to do my own thing (with the site and all) and still being around to build with her when she woke up herself.
Don’t get it twisted though: I was still a dumb-dumb at that time, so I jacked up the relationship in a lot of ways (and I’m still a dumb-dumb RIGHT NOW in a lot of ways too). I’m just saying that being so productivity-oriented helped the relationship out A LOT…I was able to teach her and show her a lot about different work styles, etc.
That’s another thing…most of my work online is born out of my productivity-skills, not because I’m all that as a person (cause trust me, I’m not…I got a lot to work on just like everybody else).
I’m able to do so well and be so consistent with my creative work because I’m self-disciplined, not because I’m any “better” or “more evolved” in the way I think most people assume.
So I guess what I’m saying here is that productivity accomplishes multiple things, like:
– bringing you closer to achieving your life’s purpose each time you learn something,
- making you more capable of contributing to your relationships in the fullest capacity that you can,
- allowing you to create and sustain some pretty impressive things, and to make the most of your knowledge, skills and creativity,
…and much more. Leave a comment below letting me know what you think. Why is productivity important to you? What does being more productive actually MEAN in terms of RESULTS for you personally…why is it even important???
