How to Reverse-Engineer Your Mind for Success
“Money is cheap. Liberty and freedom are the most expensive.”
~ Bill Cunningham (fashion photographer for the New York Times)
The principle a thing emanates from is, ironically, often confused with the state of mind that thing is meant to attain, or result in.
What I mean is that in terms of our health, in terms of our relationships with other people and in terms of our financial wellbeing, the physical states and material goods we look to acquire are often only symbols or tokens of a mentality or an emotion we long to achieve.
In my book How to Conquer Yourself: Discipline & Willpower for the Conscious, Creative Thinker, I say it like this:
“Don’t let circumstances define your identity for you: don’t let financial troubles, a failed romance or any other setback puppeteer you into who you’re going to be. We all face pain in life, so it’s natural to feel down at times, but ultimately, you have to make a conscious choice about the type of person you’re going to be, and maintain that stance regardless of what occurs or what other people do to you. Otherwise, your motivation will be less reliable than the weather.
Remember that things come and go. You could have a great corporate job and lose it overnight because of an executive scandal, or some white-collar crime that lead the firm into bankruptcy. You could have a perfect partner who suddenly becomes a drug addict, loses their sanity or simply leaves you for someone half your age (or double your income) and so on…as we spoke of in the last chapter, just as you can’t find happiness or internal strength through commercial products, you can’t find happiness or internal strength through ideal circumstances either.”
So remember, “Money is cheap; liberty and freedom are the most expensive.” The mentality or emotional state is to be sought first and built from the inside out (irreverent to the fact that this is a much more difficult process to go through which takes a much longer period of time).
That’s because if you don’t, everything you obtain will be, at best, a temporary satisfaction or a mere distraction and, at worst, a meaningless and empty pursuit.
If you build the mindset first, if you reverse-engineer the character beforehand, everything will come to you casually: those material effects and situational desires will produce themselves as a by-product to the type of person you naturally are.
But to speed up this process – to accelerate the internalization of new beliefs, new emotional patterns and new, more constructive habits of thought – take a look at Think Right Now Intl.’s Accelerated Success Conditioning Software, the same program I use daily to stay focused, motivated, centered and on-point.
