More Comments on the Latest Video (Why Knowledge is Power)…

Peace,

Just put this new video up:

This is probably one of my favorites so far, because what Rasun (the brother in the blue shirt) built on really touched me. The community I came up in has a lot of gang activity, and for a long time now (ever since I started getting knowledge and being authentic), I’d always reflect on some of the kids I grew up around and how brilliant they were: I’ve spent a lot of time thinking of who they could’ve become if they just had the right influences to motivate them.

When people tell me I’m smart or talented, it’s almost hard for me to acknowledge that because the first image that comes to mind are the kids I know from back in Long Island way smarter and far more talented then I am who just happened to make the wrong choices, and the first thought that comes to mind os how I feel they would’ve made better choices if they only had better support .

Don’t get me wrong: Hempstead, Long Island isn’t South Central, L.A. or anything like that, but there isn’t the greatest amount of positivity there either (or at least there wasn’t when I was coming up). A friend of mine I went to High school did a documentary about this not too long ago too:

Recommended Scrolls is a video-series that’ll show clips of both raw footage from the lecture and new sessions me and Rasun put together as time goes on. In the next joint, I’ll be reading from one of my favorite books ever, From Niggas to Gods by Akil.

“Like I said in a facebook photo not too long ago…”a lot of cats (the so-called ‘scholarly’ type) knock it because it doesn’t speak with proper English or pointless academic terms…the brother Akil writes in Ebonics and keeps it so real that you feel like he’s right there building with you…

The bottom line is that it’s written like that to talk to who it’s supposed to talk to: the average young black man in a not so favorable situation. There are so many jewels and life-changing paradigm shifts in this one book (and it’s so easy to read) that I had no choice but to put it up here. (I might make a note out of this one soon…)

Brothers, if you haven’t already, READ THIS BOOK — trust: if you do nothing else for black history month, this will more then meet the quota.

To see some of the other books we’ll be covering in this series, check out the rotating sidebar to the upper right…

Peace,
+B
