How Our Society is Keeping You From Being Productive (& What You Can Do About It…)

9 February 2010 4 Comments

Peace,

Over the last couple of weeks, you’ve probably noticed me starting off a few of my blog posts and facebook notes with:

from an upcoming project,” or

an excerpt from something I’m working on…” etc.

Well, I’m currently putting together a major project on self-discipline, self-control, time-management and personal productivity, and it should be ready to go really soon.

I don’t want to talk too much about it now (because I’d rather have everything together before creating any buzz about it), but even though I’d like for you to keep this on the low, I still want to show you some of the research I’ve come across:

The project started with me doing research for myself – I’m already a pretty productive guy, but I wanted to see how I could take things to the next level for 2010, and as I started looking for material, I realized that good information is hard to find. So I decided to gather up the best of the best, synthesize those ideas into a coherent system, simplify everything, add my own creative spin on it, and put it all together so others can “step their productivity-game up” as well…

So here’s a some of the better research material I’ve found:

>> “On Self-Discipline” (a blogging series by Steve Pavlina)

Don’t compare yourself to other people…it won’t help. You’ll only find what you expect to find: if you think you’re weak, everyone else seems stronger, and if you think you’re strong, everyone else seems weaker. There’s no point in doing this – simply look at where you are now and aim to get better as you go forward.

Suppose you want to develop the ability to do 8 solid hours of work each day (since you know it will make a real difference in your career). I was listening to an audio program this morning that quoted a study saying the average office worker spends 37% of their time in idle socializing…click here to continue

>> “How Our Society is Keeping You From Being Productive” (w/ Eben Pagan)
This is hot – it’s an audio clip I spliced up a little earlier, where Eben Pagan breaks down how our entertainment-centered, snack-based culture poisons our ability to lead productive, authentic lives. Trust me & listen to this now – you’ll be glad you did…

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

>> & “Getting Things Done” (a video by David Allen)
This is also really good. Here you’ll catch productivity expert David Allen talking about “Distributed Cognition,” keeping control by keeping things in perspective and even making some analogies between personal productivity and the Martial Arts….

Hope you enjoy these…

Peace,
+B
