I’ve been reading George Subira’s Getting Black Folks to Sell recently, and I want to share a section from there with you because it’s really helping me with where I’m at right now

The book is about sales psychology as it applies to Black people: Subira outlines WHY learning sales skills is so important to our economic success (both individually and collectively): because a college education isn’t worth what it used to be, because technology is making black labor OBSOLETE, etc. etc.

the fear of success in the black communityAfter that, he helps the reader (in this case me) work through the psychological limitations specific to the Black community around selling, success, wealth and prosperity.

What Resonates Most…

For me, the part about confidence really resonated, because I know I need to be confident if I want to be successful, but I have a fear that I’ll lose friends and meaningful connections from coming across as arrogant.

The confidence I need has to be authentic…it has to be an integral part of who I am (not something I just turn on when I’m online), but I’m hesitant about it because I don’t want the people I care about to feel like we can’t relate…

Subira’s work is helping me with this, so much love to him…

Peace,
+B
