The Philosophy of Liberty
Today’s Jewel——————————————————————————–
Peace y’all…
Below you’ll see an interesting video clip called The Philosophy of Liberty , a short presentation with some insightful perspectives on freedom and the right to self-enterprise.
It was created by Ken Schoolland, author of the book The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible , an award-winning, fictional children’s story based on the concepts of free-market capitalism, liberty, and democracy.
While I’m no expert in the field of civics or free-market economics, I definitely feel where Schoolland seems to be coming from: self-responsibility and mutual respect for individual sovereignty.
Take a quick look:
That was pretty deep, huh?
To be honest, watching this gave me some great ideas for my upcoming book (see The Knowledge I’m About to Manifest), and that’s why I thought to share it with you guys here.
More on that tomorrow…
Peace,

Yo, you work on weekends?? You’re a hard working man, MAN!! lol. (in reference to this really being a daily post).
Yea so to the point…
The video was interesting. At first it was moving, then I realized it was an in depth explanation of Locke’s famous line in the constitution (life, liberty, property), with the purpose of inspiring a “free society”.
One contradiction I found in the video however, were the statements (not verbatim):
1)we should not give others ownership of our life
2)we have the right to appoint leaders
Now, the video attempts to make these statements not seem contradictory , by using violence as the reasoning of not allowing “officials” to ask others to fight on wreak havoc on others and then wrapping up with, “lets promote a free society”. But I don’t buy it… Why? Because the two statements are contradictory, and the issue of government must be seriously evaluated and cannot be covered up by a simple freedom for all, lets hug and shake hands….
I think agreeing to any form of governing is giving up a part of yourself…. Now do I agree with the need for a government? The answer is embarassing….
Ok so the last line is bothering me too much to end in “…”.
So yea, im embarassed im not sure what my position on government is. Its easy to say “to hell with it”, but i’m here living in the midst of it, abiding by its rules, without putting up a fight. So yup, theres my position (or lack there of)I guess. It’ll develop with time.
Thanks for the inspiring topic Bryan!
Peace,
Interesting points…you saw things more analytically than most. Post like this make I’m glad we’re questioning what we observe, and not just excepting it because it sounds good and looks cool.
Don’t worry about having “a lack of” position though. All of us should have a continuously developing philosophy: our ideas and understandings should be maturing just like we do, because “success is a journey, not a destination. “. Seeing your boundary is the beginning of transcending it.
Personally, I saw the video from a more symbolic perspective, with the leaders, or government, representing certain philosophies or belief systems.
Remember that theoretical discussions in sociology and political science almost always fall short in their actual implementation – we could have the most perfect governmental structure laid out on paper, but when it comes time to make it a reality, there’s always a miscalculation. It seems that there’s an undefinable aspect to human nature that always throws a wrench in the plan. “Man the anomaly” is a common saying.
So essentially, the idea I think we can take away from it is that no one has a right to define reality for another. We can’t force ideologies or belief systems upon one another. You have the right to choose leaders (mental perspectives) for yourself, and if it gets you a lot of property (productivity/ physical, mental, or spiritual profit) it’s all good for you. It’s when we impinge upon the rights of free thinking that we have a problem.
I should’ve specified this in the actual text, but I wanted to save it for another post entirely (see how long this comment is becoming?).
For instance, today someone advised me to put information astrological and ancient egyptian information on the blog. Through BCP however, I’ve learned that not everybody’s “feeling” that. Some people like Kemetic information; some people like Buddhist information. Some of us are concerned with worker”s rights while others are concerned with women’s liberation in the middle east. Some of us want to go green and save the environment, and some us just want to make enough money to live and play the guitar in our spare time.
So not all of us consider “ancient egyptian symbology” enlightening, and those of us who do should respect that (and not look down upon others as fools because they don’t see where we’re coming from).
As far as spreading knowledge goes however, we can all benefit from general wisdom and self-improvement. All of us, no matter what our belief system or life agenda, can benefit from learning the self-confidence needed to achieve major goals. Time management skills will help the over-booked businesses man just as well as the housewife interested in learning astrology.
DoTheKnowledge.com is all about how to make practical change in your life with all the knowledge you obtain. In this post’ (and DTK in general), I’m staying away from promoting specific ideologies and belief systems, and dealing with things from a deeper, more universal perspective.
Peace Cee87,
and thanks for again for your thoughtful post :)

[...] I would then go on to give examples, such as your right to life and what you do with it and your right to property, etc. Here’s another video that goes a little further (I elaborated on this more in an older blog post you can find here.): [...]
